How to add stories to CNHINS.com
Follow these simple instructions to submit stories to CNHIns.com
CNHI News Service
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Click "submit story," at the top of the homepage, you'll see a form on the next page.
Here are the fields you'll need to fill out:
The "Headline" field should hold the title of the story. It's required.
The "Subhead" field is for a deck headline if you have one to suggest.
In the "States affected" field, put the two-letter postal abbreviation for all states to which the story refers. For Oklahoma, put "OK" in the field. If it is about Oklahoma and Texas, put "OK TX". This keyword is required. (If you are in Indiana, you need to use IND because computers aren't really that smart and IN breaks things).
The "Nut graf" field should be a brief summary of the story. This can be the nut graph, if you wish. This helps explain a bit more about what stories are about when they're on the Web. The short story is required.
Type any notes for the national editors in the "Notes for editor" field. Use this to tell them the names of the photos you are uploading that should run along with your story.
The "Source" field holds your newspaper's name. You can choose it from the drop-down menu or type it in the blank. The source is required.
The "Dateline" field holds the dateline for the story. You can choose it from the drop-down list or type a new one in the blank. Dateline is required.
The "Byline" holds your byline, of course. Use this format: "By TOM REPORTER"
Your story goes in the "Story" field. You can just cut and paste it in the big blank. make sure you leave the byline, dateline and source off the pasted story--you've already put those in!
Click the submit button to save the story and a CNHI national editor will read, edit and post online for you in a short while.
(The link fields down further on the page allow you to add related materials to your story. They're all optional.)
